My Story

I’m Briana and I’m so glad you’re here!

Positively Hygge grew out of more than two decades of working alongside leaders and teams; through growth, change, and the everyday moments that shape how work actually feels.

For most of my career, I’ve worked at the intersection of consulting and senior HR leadership. In consulting, I partnered with leaders to design structures, governance, and change approaches meant to create clarity and alignment.

Later, inside organizations, I worked alongside executives and teams to bring those ideas to life in a way that actually held up day to day. Over time, I started to notice a pattern. The teams that performed best weren’t just well-structured. They had a shared sense of trust, clarity, and ownership that made the work feel more focused; and more sustainable.

And that’s where something clicked for me.

Culture wasn’t separate from the work. It was the work.

Not as an initiative or a set of programs, but as the conditions that shape how people show up, make decisions, and move things forward together. And the leaders who created those conditions weren’t starting from what was broken. They were building on what was already working and leaning in to create more of it.

That perspective was shaped in a deeper way during the decade I spent living and working in Denmark. In Danish organizations, culture is embedded. It shows up in how leaders lead, how decisions are made, and how responsibility is shared. There’s an assumption that when people feel trusted, clear, and supported, they will step into ownership. And in many cases, they do.

At the time, I wasn’t trying to label it. I was paying attention to what was working and how much better things moved when those conditions were present. You start with what’s working. You build from there.

The real shift came when I began intentionally bringing those principles into U.S. based, global organizations. Not as a philosophy—but as a way to help leaders create clarity, alignment, and momentum in environments that are often fast-moving and complex.

By combining Scandinavian cultural principles with deep experience inside corporate America, I help leaders strengthen what’s already present and design the conditions that allow it to scale.

That’s what led me to create Positively Hygge.

Today, I work as a culture consultant and trusted advisor, helping leaders build environments where people can focus, collaborate, and take ownership in a way that supports both results and sustainability.

At its core, Positively Hygge is about this:

Creating the conditions where people and performance thrive together.

Not as a tradeoff. As a choice. Because when those conditions are in place, you don’t have to push performance. You create the space for it to emerge.

Outside of work, I’m based in the D.C. area—coaching volleyball, leading Girl Scouts, tackling DIY projects (with a growing collection of power tools), and exploring local bars and restaurants with friends. You’ll also find me at my favorite place to hygge—a small lake in upstate New York with family. So basically, I enjoy a challenge and don’t sit around much.
